HK's No 2 ground handler off 13pc in February

Hong Kong's No 2 ground handler, Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT), has announced a 13 per cent drop in air cargo in February to 45,064 tonnes, a decline attributed to the late arrival of Chinese New Year's annual factory shutdown, according to the Shipping Gazette.
Exports were down 14 per cent in February year on year, totalling 28,677 tonnes while imports fell 15 per cent to 15,257 tonnes. The bright spot, said the AAT statement, was in the transshipment category, which surged 133 per cent to 1,131 tonnes.
Cumulative export tonnage in January and February was up five per cent to 69,906 tonnes while cumulative import tonnage fell four per cent to 33,603 tonnes with cumulative transshipment cargo volume surging 102 per cent to 2,037 tonnes year on year.
Said AAT general manager Chan Yee Lin: "It is expected that air cargo traffic would slow in February as a result of a relatively long break in production during the Chinese New Year period. However, with the modest growth in tonnage year-to-date, we hope that the growth will gather momentum for the remaining part of the year."
