DP World's container terminals joined InlandLinks

The DP World container terminals in Germersheim, Germany and Beverdonk in Belgium have joined InlandLinks, an online platform for container terminals located in the European hinterland that offer intermodal services to and from the Port of Rotterdam, according to the Shipping Gazette.
This brings the total number of terminals included in InlandLinks to 33, including 26 in the Netherlands, four in Germany and three in Belgium.
Ninety per cent of the Dutch hinterland terminals organised in the VITO (Dutch Inland Container Terminal Organisation) participates in InlandLink, an initiative of the Port of Rotterdam Authority that has been developed further in cooperation with VITO.
The development comes as the Dubai-based parent company of the two inland terminals joining IslandLinks is constructing the Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) container terminal at the Second Maasvlakte.
The other participants in RWG are shipping lines MOL, NOL, Hyundai and CMA CGM. The terminal is to be commercially operational in Autumn 2014. It is designed to facilitate hinterland transport by inland vessel and rail, a statement said.
The purpose of InlandLinks (http://www.inlandlinks.eu/nl) is to present terminals on the basis of objective and comparable criteria, to enable logistics providers identify the best partner. It also contributes to a rise in intermodal container transport by train and barge, with container volumes at Rotterdam forecast to triple in the next 25 years.
Rotterdam authorities estimate 30 million TEU will be handled at the port in 2035, including two million TEU to be shipped using smaller vessels to and from European ports. Within this total, the hinterland (via intermodal transport) will account for 18 million TEU.
DP World terminals in Europe outside the Netherlands are located in Stuttgart, Emmerich, Neuss and Germersheim in Germany, and Liege, Genk and Bevervoorde in Belgium.
