Air Algerie seeks 16 planes, including 2 freighters, bids in by April 28

Algeria's national carrier Air Algerie has launched a tender to buy 14 passenger aircraft ranging from 70 to 250 seats and two 13-20 ton-capacity cargo jets, as it seeks to renew its fleet and cope with competition, reported the government newspaper El Moudjahid.
Setting April 28 as the deadline for bids from plane makers, state-owned Air Algerie is shopping for eight 150-seat, three 250-seat and three 70-seat passenger aircraft, to augment its fleet of 42 passenger jets and two cargo aircraft.
The airline faces competition from Air France, British Airways. Qatar Airways, Emirates and Royal Jordanian, which provide regular direct flights to Algiers, though as the country's flag carrier, the national carrier has a domestic monopoly.
