March Asia-Pacific air cargo off 3.1pc

Asia-Pacific carriers posted a 3.1 per cent decline in international air cargo demand in March year on year accompanied by a 2.1 per cent fall in capacity with an international load factor slip of 0.6 percentage points to 69.2 per cent, said the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
"Some modest improvement in world trade conditions could see air cargo markets picking up later this year," said AAPA director general Andrew Herdman.
Meanwhile, Asia Pacific airlines saw international passenger numbers increase 5.7 per cent year on year, but international freight demand fell four per cent," he said.
"Whilst international passenger demand continues to be underpinned by solid economic growth within the Asia Pacific region, international air freight demand remains soft, reflecting continuing weakness in key export markets."
