Chopin Airport celebrates busiest April on record

Chopin Airport had its best April ever, with more than 860,000 passengers handled, a 5.7% increase year-on-year.
As in the previous months, the high passenger numbers were mainly due to the decision of two low-cost airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air, to temporarily transfer their flights from Modlin back to Warsaw. The former carried over 131,000 passengers at Chopin Airport in April 2013 and the latter – nearly 80,000.
The number of aircraft movements is growing more slowly than the number of passengers, with 12,200 landings and take-offs recorded at Chopin Airport in April, a 4.9% rise on the year before.
Since the beginning of 2013, Chopin Airport has served nearly 3 million passengers, 9.8% more than in the corresponding period of 2012, including 2.6 million travellers on international flights (+14.5%) and 336,000 domestically (-17%).
The number of long-haul passenger surged to 182,000 in the period from January to April 2013, up 27.1% on the same period a year before. An even-bigger growth was recorded in long-haul aircraft movements (+35.1%). Long-distance flights at Chopin Airport are operated by LOT Polish Airlines (Chicago, New York, Toronto and Beijing), Emirates Airlines (Dubai), Qatar Airways (Doha) and charter airlines (e.g. Dominican Republic, India, Kenya, Thailand, Vietnam and Venezuela).
