Asia Pacific April air cargo slips 0.8pc

April's Asia Pacific international air cargo demand in freight tonne kilometres declined 0.8 per cent year on year while capacity grew by 0.9 per cent, according to the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
This resulted in a 1.1 percentage point fall in the average international cargo load factor to 65.2 per cent, said the AAPA.
"Overall, air cargo in the first four months of the year declined 3.2 per cent whilst the number of international passengers carried by the region's airlines saw a 5.6 per cent increase," said AAPA director general Andrew Herdman.
"Sustained growth in the region's economies continues to drive air travel demand for Asian carriers. On the other hand, air cargo demand remains lackluster. The outlook for international air cargo demand remains clouded by uncertainty over the likely pace of any pickup in world trade flows," Mr Herdman said.
