AMI gets heavy with online express business


AMI – the world’s largest trade-only airfreight- and express wholesaler – has enhanced its online click2Ship  express services with the addition of a heavyweight economy service to the USA for shipments from 71 to 1000 kilos per piece.
The new service includes an option for collection, as well as an airport-to-door variant for agents who prefer to deliver into AMI’s nationwide receiving centres. 
click2Ship, first launched in the UK in June 2010, is an all-inclusive online express service which provides instant quotes to freight agents including collection, delivery and Customs clearance; accepted quotes are then easily converted to bookings, and customers can track their shipments online right through to destination. 
click2Ship already accounts for around 40% of AMI’s express volumes; AMI’s UK General Manager Express, Patrick Walsh, expects this figure to grow further as a result of the new heavyweight service: “This expansion of the click2ship product provides an interesting new opportunity: the all-inclusive pricing and trackability of an integrator service, combined with rates that compare well with traditional airport to door services. This means its appeal spans courier companies and freight forwarders”. 
He continues: “We are targeting 50% growth within a year, and we plan to extend the new heavyweight click2ship product to other destination markets from the UK in the coming months. Our vision is to simplify the quote and booking  process for agents – so they can take advantage of wholesale rates, with the added convenience of speed”. 
With the introduction of the new service, and the addition of an airport to door option, AMI’s IT team needed to perform extensive modifications to the company’s dedicated click2ship website. A new ‘broker select’ option has also been added, enabling agents to nominate their preferred Customs clearance agent if required. The site now publishes a service guide which includes information on sending goods to the USA, with the aim of eradicating shipment delays due to procedural errors. 
Says Sharon Wright, AMI’s VP Europe and Head of the global click2ship brand: “We have been very happy with the strong take-up of the click2ship product in the UK and USA so far. It enables agents of all sizes to offer their customers highly-competitive integrator-style services and support, with the added reassurance of AMI’s renowned wholesale neutrality. 
“We expect click2ship to become an even more significant element of AMI’s total global business in the future, and we meanwhile value all customer feedback to enable us to further enhance our online capabilities”.
