C.A.L. expands use of CHAMP portfolio for enhanced customs reporting

CHAMP, the international provider of integrated IT solutions and distribution services for the air cargo industry, has recently expanded its contract with C.A.L. Cargo Air Lines. The airfreight carrier is now also using CHAMP’s global customs solution to comply with the new Israeli customs regulations. These require Advance Electronic Information (AEI) for security risk analysis, in accordance with a commitment Israel has given to introduce the WCO SAFE Framework. This procedure is in addition to the current customs procedures. The AEI rules are
scheduled to go live on September 1, 2013. In the meantime airlines are requested to join mandatory pilots since June 2013.
C.A.L. has been a CHAMP customer since 2011 deploying the Traxon Global Customs application for Europe to comply with the EU Import Control System (ICS).
The CHAMP customs solution empowers the airline to be compliant with regulatory requirements on all routes.
CHAMP’s Customs & Security portfolio covers a wide variety of country specific solutions. So far, applications for 37 states have been developed with additional ones added step by step. The products do not need massive investment nor extensive staff training. They are easy to maintain due to the single provider and gateway. They
save time and money by automating many internal processes and reducing paperwork.
“The announcement of new Israeli customs regulations led us to approach CHAMP Cargosystems as the leading solution provider in this field and as our service provider for the EU Import Control System (ICS) as well as for messaging. CHAMP provides us with a single gateway to all customs organizations in the EU and now also in Israel”, said Rami Marom, VP Ground Operations & COO of C.A.L. “Our decision to expand our co-operation with CHAMP was based on the positive experience and good working relationship we have today.”
“We are very proud that we were able to win C.A.L. for the new Israeli customs solution. This is a proof that we enjoy a good co-operation and that our product is strong”, said Reinhard Schoeler, Area Manager Sales CHAMP Cargosystems. “We look forward to further deepen our relationship with C.A.L. in the years to come.”
C.A.L.'s flight schedules currently include between six to eight flights weekly on the route Tel Aviv – Liège – Tel Aviv, and daily cargo flights to the U.S.A. The company operates one weekly flight to JFK with one of the 747-200 aircrafts at its disposal, and five times a week a flight from Liège to JFK and back with a 777 cargo aircraft.
With half of its cargo capacity allotted to C.A.L. en route to Israel, C.A.L. lands twice a week in Larnaca, Cyprus, as part of a cooperation with Cyprus Airways. Over and above the regular operations, another field of specialization of the company is operating charter flights to destinations worldwide. The company holds today 38% of the freighter market in Israel and 22% of the general air cargo market.
