Entering the Austrian market: CargoServ orders Vectron locomotive

Austrian company Cargo Service GmbH (CargoServ) has ordered a Vectron-type locomotive from Siemens. Following delivery in February 2014, this will be the first Vectron locomotive to enter service on the Austrian rail network.
The ordered vehicle is intended for use in cross-border services between Austria and Germany. Alongside national train protection systems, the locomotive is also equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS). Cabling for the installation of additional train protection systems is also already on board. The locomotive has a maximum power output of 6,400 kW and a top speed of 160 km/h.
The new Vectron will be CargoServ’s eighth electric mainline locomotive, with the company already having seven Siemens 1116 or 1216 series electric locomotives.
CargoService, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ), runs freight services on public rail infrastructure as a private rail operator and currently transports four million tons of raw materials and finished products a year.
