Bombardier wins US$4 million Australian rail contract

Montreal's Bombardier and consortium members have secured a US$4.1 billion railway contract with the Australian state of Queensland for a rollingstock project.
Its rail technology subsidiary, Bombardier Transportation, will provide 75 electrical multiple units, build a depot and provide maintenance over a 30-year period for a share in the contract valued at $2.7 billion.
Members of the rolling stock consortium include specialist asset manager John Laing, Japanese trading house Itochu Corp and Uberior.
According to Montreal Desjardins Securities analyst Benoit Poirier, the rail equipment provider looks set "to benefit from several upcoming opportunities around the world" which include London's underground and Crossrail, options for regional and commuter trains for French railway SNCF and new commuter trains and double-deckers in Germany, according to Shipping Gazette.
