Maersk's standalone forwarder Damco has upgraded its office in Suzhou and Hangzhou to extend its reach in eastern China, the company announced.
Apart from upgrading Suzhou and Hangzhou offices, Damco also opened in Dongguan adjacent to Guangzhou last November and is working on plans to open in eight new locations in north Asia.
Damco Suzhou started in June 2010, while Damco Hangzhou opened in last June as a branch of the Ningbo operation. The recent upgrade of both offices has doubled Damco's sales force in the offices.
"Among all the cities along the Yangtze River Delta in east coast of China, Suzhou and Hangzhou are among the top-tier in terms of GDP growth, gross industrial output value, total trade value and foreign direct investment," said Damco north Asia chief Henriette Thygesen.
"The proximity to Shanghai made Suzhou and Hangzhou the popular manufacturing base. The upgraded commercial offices can further strengthen Damco's capability," she said.
Damco employs 11,300 people in 300 offices worldwide. In 2012, it generated revenues of US$3.3 billion, managed 2.7 million TEU and air freighted more, according to Shipping Gazette.
