Toshiba wins systems supply order in Taiwan

  21.02.2014

Japanese conglomerate Toshiba has won a turnkey order worth JPY2.8bn from the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) to supply electrical and mechanical systems (E&M) for three new stations, according to Railway Technology.
The order will include passenger announcement systems, passenger information systems, signalling systems, electrification and power systems, as well as the maintenance management information system.
The three new stations are expected to open by the end of 2015 and will be constructed at Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin on the Taiwan High Speed Rail line (THSR).
With these new stations, the THSR is expected to play an even more central role in vitalising Taiwan's economy.
Toshiba Social Infrastructure Systems president and CEO Toshio Masaki said: "Toshiba is committed to fully supporting the project and bringing it in on schedule.
"We strongly hope that THSRC will continue to advance its system, and that we can introduce THSR as a successful example of the Shinkansen system to other countries planning to build high speed rail lines."
Toshiba and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) won an order for E&M systems, including the railway power supply system, for the Nangang extension project in July 2013. Toshiba and Kawasaki Heavy Industries won an order for four 12-car train sets in May 2012.
THSR has currently scheduled rail services travel the 345km distance between Taipei and Kaohsiung in about 90 minutes.
