Germany's Dascher opens US$35.3 million UK hub in East Midlands

Dascher, a family-run German logistics company, is to open a EUR26 million (US$35.3 million) UK logistics centre in the East Midlands, according to Shipping Gazette.
The facility will occupy 7.4-hectares within Brackmills industrial estate in Northampton and house an expanded regional logistics centre as well as the UK head office.
The facility will be linked to the global Dascher network with daily direct freight services, said Dascher UK chief Nick Lowe. Other branches were opened in the south and north of England in Dartford, Kent in 2005 and Greater Manchester in 2010.
"With this new construction, the Northampton location is evolving into an important hub within Dachser's European network," said Mr Lowe.
The Northampton centre will conform to BREEAM, a leading assessment method for sustainable buildings, and hold 'Very Good' standard.
It will have a 6,000-square metre transit terminal, a 10,500-square metre contract logistics warehouse with 20,000 racked pallet positions and a 2,000-square metre two-storey office building.
In the long term, the transit terminal can be enlarged following growth in "tandem with its customers", said Dachser CEO Bernhard Simon.
