UPS to open nine new operating facilities

US global package company United Parcel Service (UPS) is to open nine new operating facilities in the state of Sao Paulo to increase the company's network in the country 78 per cent, according to Shipping Gazette.
UPS has placed its facilities in the cities of Sao Carlos, Ribeirao Preto, Franca, Bauru, Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Botucatu, Aracatuba and Presidente Prudente.
It will increase its fleet size to 115 vehicles to service additional routes. This will increase service hours by two additional orders to allow for place and pick up orders supported by real-time tracking.
The growth of the middle class, e-commerce and development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), provide UPS multiple avenues for opportunities in Brazil, said UPS country manager Nadir Moreno.
The Atlanta-based company will increase the size of its operations to almost 20,000 square metres, which will include a total of 21 operating facilities, serving more than 110 municipalities.
The expansion will create an estimated 100 new jobs and more than 800 third-party staff positions from an overall staff base of 3,000 employees.
