Siemens supplies signal technology for new subway Line 3 in Xi'An, China

After successfully equipping Line 1 during 2013, Siemens won the order to supply the radio-based train control system Trainguard MT for the new subway route, Line 3. Thanks to the optimization of the acceleration, driving and braking processes, this solution consumes less energy and improves on-time performance of the trains. The corresponding order is being awarded by the China Railway Signal & Comm. Corp (CRSC). The order is worth around €28 million.
Together with Lines 1 and 2, Line 3 makes up the main mass transit network in Xi'An. Line 3, which runs for some 39 kilometers and includes 26 stations, will form the main traffic route linking the north and the west of Xi'An. Line 3 will be equipped with Siemens' Trainguard MT automatic train control system. This enables optimized train sequencing in line with passenger volumes and maximizes the subway's operating safety, reliability, and availability. The integrated Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system ensures automatic, energy-efficient running. Data is transferred continuously between the metro line and the train via the Airlink radio transmission system, Trainguard MT requires less trackside equipment, such as signals and block signaling systems, than conventional train protection systems. This results in lower installation and maintenance costs, and in turn reduces the demand for spare parts.
Today, Siemens' Trainguard MT solution is the world's most widely used train control system. In China, Trainguard MT has already been installed in the cities of Beijing, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Chongqing and Nanjing, as well as on the Guangfo Line linking Guangzhou and Foshan. The operators of the lines currently under construction in Qingdao, Dongguan and Fuzhou have also opted for Trainguard MT from Siemens.
