Deutsche Bahn applies for injunction against striking train drivers union

German state-owned railway Deutsche Bahn has asked a Frankfurt court for an injunction after the GDL train drivers' union rejected mediation and continued their strike, reports Reuters.
Most freight trains ground to a halt and passenger trains stopped the next day. The strike marred Sunday's celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Economists estimate a train strike of more than three days could cost the economy up to EUR100 million (US$126 million) a day if assembly lines have to stop. One-fifth of German freight moves by rail.
German strikes are rare. GDL already held a 60-hour strike on a school holiday weekend last month, stranding millions of passengers.
