DFDS grows in the Baltic Sea

DFDS has seen a recent increase in transport volume on their vessels going to and from the Baltic countries because Russian freight forwarders have difficulties obtaining permission to go through Poland. This temporary increase is not an isolated case. In fact, DFDS has seen an overall increase over the last year, both in terms of freight volume and in terms of the number of passengers on the routes to Germany and Sweden.
At times this has resulted in capacity issues, and in spite of the great efforts, DFDS has not always been able to offer passengers and freight customers the required space on the vessels.
“This is why we have decided to enter PATRIA SEAWAYS into service as the third vessel on the route between Klaipeda and Karlshamn in Sweden. We have also decided to maintain the daily departure between Klaipeda and Kiel, which we recently tested due to the number of additional Russian lorries,” says Anders Refsgaard, VP, BU Baltic.
PATRIA SEAWAYS enters into service on the Klaipeda-Karlshamn route on 1 April with two round trips per week. This number of round trips can be extended to three if required. The sailing schedule has not yet been set but in addition to the two current departures, PATRIA SEAWAYS will be used on the departures with the greatest need.
On the Kiel – Klaipeda route there will be a 20:00 departure from both ports arriving 16:00 the following day. However, due to planned dockings, there will be a temporary schedule between 15 March and 1 April.
