Cathay looks to proposed Airbus A350 stretch-jet for non-stop Miami

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways says it's talking with Airbus about the planemaker's proposal for a bigger version of the newest A350 wide-body, according to Shipping Gazette.
Cathay, which already has forty-eight A350s on order, is interested in a "stretch-jet" variant that would allow it go to Miami nonstop from Hong Kong.
Cathay CEO Ivan Chu told Bloomberg that Airbus needs to attract a good number of initial customers to get the go ahead for the stretch-jet A350.
Airbus CEO Fabrice Bregier said Airbus is still assessing demand, and a decision is unlikely to come by the Farnborough Air Show in mid July.
The backbone of Cathay's long-haul fleet is the Boeing 777-300ER, of which it has 53 examples, with 21 next-generation 777-9Xs on order.
Mr Chu said he's not interested in Airbus's A380 superjumbo, which is generally outfitted with 525 seats, since it doesn't favour the high-frequency timetables needed to lure corporate passengers.
