India to open 90 airports in 12 months

India is pushing to get 90 new airports opened up in the coming 12 months. It is part of a government plan to connect smaller cities with air traffic, so that they too can take part in the country’s air travel boom.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to accelerate growth in the world’s fastest expanding aviation market, Reuters reports. Meanwhile, airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet and Jet Airways will be encouraged to get this vast, untapped market up the air.
Many new airports have already been built across India but have not yet opened as fares are too high for most people, discouraging airlines from flying there.
The country’s civil aviation ministry says there are 30 recently completed airports and a further 60 that are almost built, which it can persuade airlines to fly to soon.
