Emirates SkyCargo to raise rates from August 8

Dubai-based Emirates SkyCargo is increasing its published freight rates in an apparent attempt to capitalise on key routes.
The carrier is raising its rates by US$0.10/kg on standard tariff and contract rates for all cargo, courier and mail, effective from August 8, reported Arabian Supply Chain.com.
"Emirates SkyCargo is forced to implement the mentioned increase due to the fact that the prevailing rates in the market make our operation unsustainable," the airline said.
Forwarders have said there is uncertainty whether the carrier will follow through, given air cargo overcapacity in the global market. It is only believed that the airline may only implement the increased rates on routes where Emirates has few rivals and cargo demand is high.
Emirates will likely use its huge global belly and freighter capacity and financial stability from parent company Emirates Group to test the market.
