In the first eight months of 2016, the tonnage carried rose 1.2 per cent against a 0.3 per cent increase in capacity and a 0.7 per cent drop in RTKs.
But the two carriers showed a drop a 3.8 per cent year-on-year drop in passengers to 2,975,161. Year to date, however, the numbers were up 1.8 per cent, accompanied by a 3.4 per cent capacity increase
On seat sales, Cathay revenue chief Patricia Hwang said: "Disruption caused by Typhoon Nida, led to nearly 300 flights being cancelled. Our top markets ?Hong Kong, mainland China and the US ?continued to show signs of weakness."
Said Cathy cargo chief Mark Sutch: "Freighters on our North American routes were generally full. We now see the momentum for exports out of Hong Kong and mainland China.
