Jettainer starts JettCare for ULD expertise training

Outsourced unit load device (ULD) management specialist, Jettainer, is launching JettCare, a programme to create awareness for the value and importance of air freight containers and pallets.
The programme will involve training several thousand ground services staff, making them "ULD-X-Perts", said the Lufthansa Cargo sister company, according to London's Air Cargo News.
Said Jettainer: "Expenditure on repairs is a significant cost factor in ULD management. In the specially developed training course, participants will learn how to handle ULDs correctly, prevent damage and understand the operational and financial effects of any faulty or missing ULDs.
"Those who successfully complete the training programme will receive a 'ULD-X-Pert' certificate."
In March this year, IATA launched a ULD safety campaign to focus industry attention on the one aircraft component that is handled by multiple, non-regulated parties outside of the airport.
According to IATA, there are some 900,000 ULDs in circulation with a replacement cost of more than US$1 billion and with an annual damage repair cost of $330 million.
Announcing its initiative, managing director of Jettainer, Carsten Hernig, said: "The JettCare programme is enabling us to invest in sustainable ULD management and conserve resources. By creating awareness in ground handling staff, we will also reduce costs, which will, in turn, benefit our customers."
