Cargo demand in October surges 8.7pc

Cargo demand grew by its fastest rate in October since May 2011, with Airports Council International (ACI) Europe recording an 8.7 per cent year-on-year increase in freight traffic.
Airlines based in the European Union (EU) registered growth of seven per cent in October, while those outside the EU saw a 22.9 per cent improvement, reported London's Air Cargo News.
However, director general of ACI Europe, Olivier Jankovec, issued a warning saying: "The prospect of oil price hikes and the risk of decreasing business and consumer confidence on the back on heightened geopolitical instability may well confront us with very different traffic dynamics in the coming months."
Of Europe's busiest airports, Frankfurt registered a 5.6 per cent improvement, Paris CDG's cargo volume was up 3.9 per cent, Amsterdam Schiphol up 10.8 per cent, and London Heathrow's traffic rose by 6.7 per cent.
