Alstom unveils NTV’s first Pendolino Italo rail car

  19.12.2016

Alstom has unveiled the front car of its Pendolino Italo vehicle from a fleet of 12 trainsets it is supplying to NTV.
The company manufactured the train at its production site in Savigliano, Italy.
With the 12 rail cars and existing fleet of 25 AGV, the Italo fleet will reach a total of 37 Alstom Avelia trains.
With the new rail cars, NTV will be able to expand its existing network and respond to a demand for new routes.
NTV president Andrea Faragalli Zenobi said: “With this investment, we will increase our fleet by 50%; we are ready to face this new challenge with enthusiasm.
“Special thanks today to those Italian entrepreneurs who in 2006 had this intuition called Italo, on which few would have bet initially and which is now a well-established company."
Scheduled to be delivered by December next year, the trains will enter service in March 2018.
Alstom’s other sites also involved in production include Sesto San Giovanni, Bologna and Nola depots.
The environmentally friendly Pendolino Italo trains are 187m-long, have high recyclability and reduced CO2 emissions, with the capacity to reach maximum speeds of 250km/h.
Composed of seven cars, they can accommodate around 480 passengers and also have optimised distributed traction system that improves acceleration and regenerates energy from braking.
Separately, Alstom has won a contract for the supply of 15 regional trains by APIX.
The trains will be manufactured at Alstom’s site at Reichshoffen in France staring next year.
Running on the new line that will connect the centre of Dakar to the new international airport Blaise Diagne (AIBD) in Diass, the trains will serve 14 stations over a distance of 57km.
