Rebound in first half lifts Asia-Pacific airlines' FTKs up 1.8pc

Members of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) saw international air cargo freight tonne kilometres (FTKs) rise by 1.8 per cent year on year in 2016, pushed up by strong second-half growth of 5.7 per cent, after a 2.2 per cent year on year decline in the first half of the year.
Last year capacity rose by 3.5 per cent, leading to a one per cent decline in the average international freight load factor, to 62.5 per cent, reported New York's Air Cargo World.
Commenting on the results, AAPA director general Andrew Herdman attributed the pick-up in air cargo in the second half of the year to "broad-based expansion in manufacturing production and international exports, supplemented by growth in demand from expanding consumer markets in Asia."
