Dallas Fort Worth Airport to build cold chain facility

Airlogistix USA is to operate a 37,000-square-foot cold chain facility to be built at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) that will give the airfield the ability to control warehousing temperatures for shipments of pharmaceuticals, flowers and fresh foods.
Expected to open this summer, the facility will provide 14,000 square feet of refrigerated storage space. "There are tremendous growth opportunities for domestic and international cargo customers to ship perishables through DFW to 180 markets," said executive vice president of global strategy and development at DFW, John Ackerman.
DFW handles two-thirds of Texas' air cargo volumes, which rose by eight per cent year on year in 2016, Mr Ackerman was cited as saying in a report by New York's Air Cargo World. DFW handles 794,600 tonnes of airfreight per annum. Tonnage has already risen by 18 per cent in January compared to the same month a year earlier.
"This new facility will increase our handling capabilities and open new doors for all our cargo and logistics partners to ship high-value, temperature- and time-sensitive products through DFW," Mr Ackerman added.
