Japan's air cargo forecast to grow 3.6pc in FY2017

Japan's air cargo volume is forecast to increase 3.6 per cent in fiscal 2017 to 2.1 million tonnes as exports and imports remain firm. However, the growth is less than the rise of 4.6 per cent recorded in fiscal 2016.
Leading the growth in 2017 will be exports, which are expected to rise 5.8 per cent to one million tonnes, while imports will increase 1.5 per cent to 1.1 million tonnes, according to Nittsu Research Institute and Consulting Inc., a subsidiary of Japan's largest international freight forwarder, Nippon Express.
A strong Japanese performance in 2017 would fit with the trend of growth in the global air cargo industry, with volume growing by its fastest rate in five years in calendar year 2016 at 3.8 per cent, IHS Media reported.
Asia Pacific carriers achieved a 2.1 per cent increase in 2016 traffic, down 2.3 per cent growth in 2015, Shipping Gazette reported.
