Etihad Cargo's 2016 cargo volume remains flat at 592,700 tonnes

Etihad Cargo carried 592,700 tonnes of freight in 2016 - almost the same volume as in 2015 when it flew 592,090 tonnes of freight and mail.
Over the course of the year, Etihad's cargo operation expanded its freighter service network to include Columbus Rickenbacker, Ohio; East Midlands and London Stansted in the UK; Copenhagen, Brussels, Addis Ababa, Casablanca, Colombo, Muscat, and Zhengzhou. These additions raised the number of Etihad Cargo's freighter-only destinations to 15.
Parent carrier Etihad Airways in 2016 operated 109,000 scheduled passenger and cargo flights to a total of 112 destinations, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Last year, it launched new services to Venice, Rabat in Morocco and Sabiha Gokcen in Turkey. It also took delivery of 10 aircraft: two Boeing 777-200 freighters, three Airbus A380s and five B787s. A further 12 aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2017: one A330-200 freighter, nine Boeing 787s and two A380s.
"2016 saw sustained growth in a very tough business environment," president and chief executive of Etihad Aviation Group (EAG), James Hogan, commented. Looking ahead, "2017 will be another challenging year. We will continue to expand prudently and efficiently, reflecting the nature of the economic environment."
