Massive Antarctic iceberg could disrupt international shipping lanes

The shipping industry is keeping a close watch on the course an iceberg weighing one trillion tons will take now that it has broken off Antarctica's Larsen C ice shelf, fearing its potential financial impact were the iceberg to migrate since it could cause a major disruption to transportation.
The Drake Passage, a gap between Cape Horn and Antarctica's South Shetland Islands, is one of the "world's busiest international shipping lanes", according to Forbes magazine, though it is not listed as among the top 10 in the LogistixAu.com ranking.
Scientists say they're not sure what the iceberg, which is larger than Delaware, will do, reported Fortune magazine.
"The iceberg is one of the largest recorded and its future progress is difficult to predict," said Adrian Luckman of Swansea University. "It may remain in one piece but is more likely to break into fragments. Some of the ice may remain in the area for decades, while parts of the iceberg may drift north into warmer waters."
