CMA CGM S Asia-Arabian Gulf-Med service calls at APMT in Mumbai

French shipping line CMA CGM's new IndiaMed service has started calling at APM Terminals Mumbai with the arrival of the 5,009-TEU CMA CGM Virginia.
Officially launched on July 2, the weekly IndiaMed service links South Asia with ports in the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean. The service is operated by vessels provided by CMA CGM, its APL subsidiary, and Chinese-based Alliance partner Cosco.
The service rotates through Khor Fakkan, Karachi, Nhava Sheva-Mumbai, Mundra, Djibouti, Jeddah, Damietta, Piraeus, Malta, Aliaga, Mersin and Port Said West.
The IndiaMed service provides the fastest transit times between India and CMA CGM hub ports in the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf, and expands the transshipment network through the MEGEM (east Mediterranean to/from Middle East destinations) and MEDEX (west Mediterranean to/from Middle East and Indian subcontinent) services, reported New York's Maritime Logistics Professional.
"We are excited to welcome this new service that expands India's markets into key ports of Mediterranean," said APM Terminals Mumbai operations chief Ravi Gaitonde.
Operating from Nhava Sheva's Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), APM Terminals Mumbai is India's largest container terminal handling facility in terms of container throughput.
Nhava Sheva handled a record 4.5 million TEU in 2016, with APM Terminals Mumbai accounting for 1.8 million TEU, or 40 per cent of total volume.
