Tata Projects completes first part of metro tunnelling

  11.08.2017

Infrastructure company Tata Projects has collaborated with Lucknow Metro Rail (LMRC) to complete an underground Tunnel Boring Project from Lucknow Secretariat to Hazratganj in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, according to Railway Technology.
The engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) project involved the construction of a 812m-long tunnel, which was successfully completed in five months from the date of commencement.
A 75m-long tunnel-boring machine (TBM) known as Gomti successfully constructed the tunnel below the dense city centre areas of Sachivalaya and Hazratganj.
The TBM was equipped with on-board computerised tunnel guidance systems to ensure that the tunnelling was completed accurately and complied with the designed alignment.
TATA Projects managing director Vinayak Deshpande said: “Due to many heritage structures, the stretch was highly challenging.
“With excellent guidance from LMRC team, state-of-the-art TBMs and a dedicated, passionate project team, the daunting task was completed in a world-class manner with outstanding quality and before-time completion.”
The company now plans to carry out the construction of another tunnel between the Sachivalaya and Hussainganj Metro Stations using Gomti.
Tata Projects is executing the design and construction project of an underground track spanning 3.67km as part of the RS11.9bn Lucknow Metro Project, which will run from from Charbagh Metro Station to KD Singh Babu Stadium Metro Station.
The company will also construct three underground metro stations at Hussainganj, Sachivalaya and Hazratganj.
The scope of work includes the installation of architectural finishes, electrical and mechanical, (E&M), tunnel ventilation (TVS) and environment control (ECS) systems on the North-South Corridor of Lucknow MRTS, Phase 1 A Project.
