Soon-to-be Cosco's OOIL signs UN Global Compact - first in HK to do so


Hong Kong's Orient Overseas (International) Limited (OOIL), soon to be a China Cosco subsidiary, has announced it has joined of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) - the first in Hong Kong to do so, according to Shipping Gazette.
UNGC members pledge themselves to sustainable development goals set out by UN, human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption measures.
"To demonstrate our long-term commitment in corporate sustainability, transparency, and accountability, we aim to publish a communication on progress report on an annual basis to describe our efforts in implementing these principles," said OOIL, which owns Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL).
Said OOIL chairman CC Tung: "We are very pleased to be a part of the United Nations Global Compact. Over the years, OOIL has been proactively building our environmental, social and governance profile."
The UN Global Compact is a call on companies to align their operations a with 10 principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to act in support of UN goals. It now has 9,500 participating companies in over 160 countries.
