Yusen to open a data-driven, semi-autonomous warehouse in Singapore

Yusen Logistics has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new "smart" three-story ramp-up warehouse that will be located within an existing facility in Tuas, Singapore when it opens in the first quarter of 2019.
The new warehouse will comprise 20,000 square metres of storage area, with 36 loading bays and an 8,000-square-metre rooftop parking area for up to 100 trailers.
Advanced robotic, radio-frequency identification (RFID), vision recognition system and autonomous technology will be installed to transform the conventional warehouse operation to a smart data-driven logistics operation, reported American Shipper.
"This new warehouse in a strategic location is equipped with the most advanced technology," Yusen Logistics president Kenji Mizushima said. "We will create sustainable growth for Singapore by providing high quality supply chain logistics service."
At the time of the groundbreaking, Yusen also launched US$6 million robotic order-picking technology at the Tuas warehouse.
Yusen Logistics says the new warehouse and technology are expected to advance existing operation productivity by optimising storage volume; increasing throughput for receiving, sorting and put-away by 18 times; and increasing the high volume and high mix order fulfilment rate by 200 per cent.
