Turkish Airlines third quarter profit rises 23pc to US$939 million


Turkish Airlines achieved a record third quarter net profit of US$939 million on total revenue of $3.6 billion, up 23 per cent year on year.
According to the airline, its margin of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 90 per cent in the third quarter to stand at $1.5 billion.
"The net profit recorded in Q3 2017, clearly demonstrates our capacity to generate cash," said Turkish Airlines chairman Ilker Ayci, reported Hawaii's eTurboNews.
Turkish Cargo transported 294,000 tons cargo in the third quarter, up 29 per cent year on year. Its revenues rose 40 per cent to reach $343 million.
During the quarter Turkish Cargo added 17 new destinations to its network, bringing the total number of destinations served to 72.
The number of destinations served by Turkish Airlines increased to 300 in the third quarter, comprising 49 domestic and 251 international destinations in 120 countries. Its fleet of 329 aircraft is one of the youngest in the world, and includes 223 narrow body planes, 90 wide body planes and 16 cargo aircraft.
