Marseille Fos fortunes rise as Maersk adds 2 new calls

The world's biggest container carrier, Maersk Line, has announced the launch of its ME2 Western Mediterranean-Middle East service from July 10 serving ports from the South of France to the Indian Ocean islands.
The seven-ship ME2 rotates through Fos, Genoa, Port Said, Jeddah, Salalah, Jebel Ali, Dammam, Al Jubayl and Abu Dhabi, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
Exports from the Mediterranean to the Gulf and India rose nine per cent in the first quarter, particularly between France and India surpassing EUR8.9 billion in 2017.
This was led by exports of machine tools, agricultural produce, metals, cars and chemicals.
ME2 calls at the Fos Seayard terminal, which shared in Fos container terminals' 10 per cent growth in 2017, its sixth consecutive year of increase.
Said Maersk country manager Claus Ellemann-Jensen: "We are back in the South of France. As a global integrator of logistics solutions, we aim to facilitate the development of our customers by opening up key markets for their activities."
