Antwerp's Railport to double intermodal capacity in a few years

Railport Antwerp, a joint venture of Antwerp Port Authority, Left Bank Development Corporation and industry associations, plans to double intermodal rail capacity in the next few years, according to Shipping Gazette.
"The part played by rail within the port is less than seven per cent," said port authority CEO Jacques Vandermeiren. "This needs to change to further growth of the port."
Railport, set up in 2013 to conduct studies and trial projects for distributed transport, has now appointed Nils van Vliet as CEO to direct its expanded activities.
Railport's next task will be to coordinate the port's rail activities, acting as a link connecting rail transport operators, the rail infrastructure operator, port companies, shippers and terminals.
