30% passenger increase during Football World Cup by airBaltic

Latvian airline airBaltic has carried over 60 000 passengers to and from its five destinations in Russia during the 2018 World Cup. The airline has carried 30% more passengers in Russia than during the same period last year.
Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic: “Riga serves as an excellent gateway between Europe and CIS countries and vice versa. As we perform over 60 weekly scheduled flights to Russia, in many cases airBaltic will be the one offering the fastest connections between its cities and the European Union.”
Due to the increased demand caused by the World Cup, this summer 18 additional flights were added to regular scheduled program, connecting Riga and Moscow, Kazan, Kaliningrad and Sochi between June 15 and July 16.
During the World Cup, nearly 70% of passengers on flights to and from Russia were transfer passengers who chose Riga for its convenient connections to its network of over 70 destinations spanning Europe, Scandinavia, the CIS and the Middle East. Top cities from which passengers travelled to Russia via Riga were Copenhagen, Paris, London and Stockholm.
airBaltic currently serves five destinations in Russia, offering convenient connections from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Sochi and Kazan to Riga and airBaltic network spanning Europe, Scandinavia, the CIS and the Middle East.
