Istanbul New Airport opens October 31 as Ataturk gutted and closed

Istanbul New Airport has confirmed that the new Turkish gateway will open for passengers on October 31, with the existing Ataturk Airport closing on the same day, reports London's Air Cargo News.
Istanbul Ataturk Airport is the main international airport serving Istanbul, and the biggest airport in Turkey.
First opened in 1912 in Yesilkoy as a military airfield, on the European side of the city, it is located 24 km (15 mi) west of the city centre and serves as the main hub for Turkish Airlines.
Istanbul New Airport said that an official opening ceremony would take place on October 29, the 95th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, attended by parliamentary speaker Binali Yildirim and other state officials.
This would be followed by the first passenger flight by flag carrier Turkish Airlines to Ankaraat the next day said chairman Ilker Ayci followed by flights to Cyprus and Azerbaijan.
Some 800 trucks will to transfer all equipment and facilities from Ataturk Airport in the previous two days, a job expected to take 45 hours.
Familiarisation training for airline employees, ground services and other companies will start on September 28 in an operation that will cover 28,200 people.
The new airport has already taken delivery of its first aircraft fuel consignment by ship at its new Fuel Supply Port, one of the few such facilities in the world.
