easyJet chooses Kuehne + Nagel to upgrade 39 aircraft

British low-cost carrier easyJet and Kuehne + Nagel signed an agreement for the logistics support to refurbish and modify 39 aircraft to be carried out at five maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) locations.
Using KN InteriorChain, easyJet aims at keeping the planned downtime for refurbishment to a minimum while benefitting from an integrated supply chain solution, reports American Journal of Transportation.
Head of Supply Chain Engineering and Technical Contracts at easyJet, Elentinus Margeirsson, said: "We have successfully worked with Kuehne + Nagel on our previous fleet upgrade. For our next 39 aircraft the complexity increases as we will work in four European locations. The KN InteriorChain solution is crucial to meet the downtime requirements and have end-to-end visbility. Kuehne + Nagel understands these challenges."
Senior vice president Aerospace at Kuehne + Nagel, Erik Goedhart, said: "The release of KN InteriorChain as end-to-end digitised solution was confirmed by the market and we are proud that easyJet decided to continue our partnership relying on this solution. Addressing the increasing frequency for interior refurbishments, KN InteriorChain offers manufaturers, maintenance & repair organisations, airlines and leasing companies a unique solution to address the complex customer requirements in this industry."
The modular solution KN InteriorChain includes supplier order management, multimodal transportation and warehousing as well as value-added services such as kitting, packaging, rework and disposal. To ensure cabin material, which is crucial for passenger comfort, is both handled appropriately and in line with the respective requirements, Kuehne + Nagel's processes are certified against the EN/AS 9100:2016 standard.
All rework activities are carried out by certified EASA part-145 mechanics while most disposal activities are supported by an AFRA certified partner. Monitoring and management of material flows across all means of transportation and warehousing is guaranteed through an integrated online ordering, cargo management and material management system.
The solution is based on Kuehne + Nagel's global aerospace network, its state-of-the-art IT infrastructure ensuring connectivity and visibility, competence centres with 24/7 support and, its AOG Desk structure.
