Avianca Cargo starts Bogota-Miami-Brussels freighter service

Avianca Cargo has launched twice weekly freighter flights to Brussels Airport to tap growing demand for cargo services at the Belgian hub.
The new service is operated on Fridays and Sundays using an Airbus A330-200 freighter. The route is operated on a loop of: Bogota, Miami, Brussels, Miami, Bogota.
Brussels Airport head of cargo Stephen Polmans said imports are mainly flowers, while exports comprise predominantly general cargo, automotive parts and pharmaceuticals, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Executive vice president Gerardo Grajales said: "The main purpose of this operation is to continue supporting the expansion of the flower industry and other perishable products in Latin America, as well as to offer a cargo transportation service to our customers in Europe and Asia to Latin America."
The location of Brussels makes it easy to connect cargo to the flower auction in Amsterdam, Europe's main operation and consolidation centre for the flower industry.
Mr Polmans also pointed out that it was the second South American freighter service launched to the airport this year after LATAM commenced a new service to Uruguay's Montevideo (MVD) Airport to cater for pharma demand. Until recently, the region was the hub's most underserved market, according to Mr Polmans.
In the first 10 months of the year the airport's cargo traffic rose by three per cent year on year to 450,558 tons, partly due to the launch of new freighter services.
