North Carolina Ports contribute US$15.4 billion a year to state economy

The ports of Wilmington and Morehead City, North Carolina, contribute US$15.4 billion to the state's economy every year, according to a 2018 Economic Impact Study conducted by the Institute for Transportation Research and Education at North Carolina State University.
This contribution results from goods moving through the ports, with $12.9 billion attributed to Wilmington and $2.5 billion to Morehead City, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
Said state Transportation Secretary Jim Trogon: "This study is a testament of NC Ports' commitment to driving business to North Carolina and fructifying our economy."
Said North Carolina Ports chairman Robert Wicker: "The authority's outstanding and hardworking employees are all dedicated to growing business and meeting NC Ports' mission to enhance the economy of North Carolina."
