New airline to start flights

  14.02.2019

Great Dane Airlines is the name of a start-up carrier that will offer charter and scheduled flights from Aalborg Airport.
Travellers in northern Denmark have long since wanted more direct flights, and they may have this wish granted by Great Dane Airlines, a new carrier to be based at Aalborg Airport, according to STANDBY Nordic.
The nascent company held a press conference at the airport, where founders Thomas Hugo Møller and Duc Huy Ngyuen presented a start-up plan to begin charter flights on June 14 for Bravo Tours.
The ultimate aim is to fly Embraer E195 aircraft from Aalborg, Billund and Copenhagen to holiday destinations such as Mallorca, Rhodes, Crete and Varna.
The charter flights are to be supplemented by scheduled routes between Aalborg and Edinburgh, Dublin and Nice.
Nilles Rejser, owned by the Danish media company Aller, has bought a number of seats on these routes, the new carrier says, giving the start-up a solid base before its aircraft take off.
“We have identified under-capacity in the northern European market for charter flights and regional scheduled flights with 100 to 120-seat jets,” explains Møller, chief executive of the new airline. “This gave us the idea to start an airline with strong North Jutland roots.”

Planes leased
Great Dane Airlines currently has an application with the Danish Transport, Construction and Housing Agency in relation to acquiring an operating license.
It has already leased two Embraer ERJ-195AR jets with space for 118 passengers and a range of 4,260 kilometres, which is for example 450 kilometres further than from Aalborg to Gran Canaria.
Ticket prices have been announced at DKK 499 (€69) one way to Nice, while the cheapest fares to Dublin and Edinburgh will be DKK 599. Luggage and seating choices are added on if traveling on a Light ticket type, while Full Flex includes luggage. Ticket sales start on March 1.
Great Dane Airlines is getting a sales office at Aalborg Airport up and running, while on the first floor a control centre has been set up for aircraft operations.
