CMA CGM to levy low sulphur surcharges

French shipping giant CMA CGM plans to levy a low sulphur surcharge for containerised shipments passing through north Europe's emissions control area (ECA) that covers Scandinavia, Poland and Baltic and onwards to the west coast of South Africa, east coast of South Africa, French West Indies, French Guyana, east coast Central America, Caribbean and Guyana in north Brazil.
Starting from April 1, shipments to west coast South America, east coast South America, French West Indies, French Guyana, east coast Central America, Caribbean and Guyana that originate from the north Europe ECA will be subject to a surcharge of EUR13 (US$ 14.77) per TEU.
Shipments from Scandinavia, Poland and the Baltic region to these areas will be required to pay a low sulphur surcharge of EUR26 per TEU, reported AJOT.
The associated basic freights and other bunker-related surcharges, terminal handling charges (origin and destination), peak season charges and safety and security-related surcharges may also apply and are accessible at http://www.cma-cgm.com/ebusiness/tariffs/charge-finder.
