MSC adds Liverpool call after 2M Alliance puts it on TA4 transatlantic route

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) plans to begin calling at the port of Liverpool. The move follows a decision by the 2M Alliance late last year to make this UK port a fixed stop on its TA4 transatlantic service.
The revised service will now call at major ports in Turkey, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, UK Liverpool and Canada. The route will be operated by eight 5,500-TEU ships with two calls every week, according to Peel Ports, the owner and operator of six UK ports.
The new service is expected to drive growth in Peel Ports' rail and short-sea feeder services to and from Scotland. The company in February announced it aims to create 250 jobs, mostly in Liverpool, to deal with the expected extra demand, reported American Shipper.
"This is another vote of confidence in the northwest and our location for bringing the heart of the UK economy closer to their international markets," Peel Ports CEO Mark Whitworth was quoted as saying.
