ICTSI opens TecPlata box terminal to boost operations in Argentina

International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) has for the first-time launched container operations at TecPlata in the Argentine port of La Plata, located 60 kilometres away from Buenos Aires. The move comes after ICTSI struck a deal with a container shipping line, Log In. Previously, the terminal served the bulk trades.
Some US$440 million is to be invested in the terminal's development with various phases of expansion scheduled for completion before 2028, reported Seatrade Maritime News, Colchester, UK.
The 450,000-TEU-capacity terminal is built on a 41-hectare site equipped with a 25-hectare container yard, a 660-metre berth, four gantry cranes of 55 metres range and a capacity of 90 containers per hour, a parking area for 200 trucks, and a portal of self-service for operational transactions and payments.
"The agreement concluded with the shipping company Log In is the initial link in a series of agreements that allow to increase the level of activity until reaching the maximum operational capacity," said TecPlata CEO Bruno Porchietto.
"We are convinced that the start-up of the terminal will offer the country a logistics option equipped with the highest efficiency, technology and transparency."
