Vancouver dockers hold strike vote, but allow talks to continue

Canadian members of the west coast International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) have voted overwhelmingly to strike in Vancouver and Prince Rupert if necessary, but talks with employers will continue until the end of May, according to Shipping Gazette.
The ILWU and British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) have agreed to continue negotiations on a replacement of the eight-year contract that expired on March 31, 2018.
"We have dates scheduled to continue bargaining through to the end of May with the assistance of the Federal Conciliation and Mediation Service," said Jeff Scott, chairman of the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) and president and CEO of Fraser Surrey Docks.
Neither side will say what issues are holding up the negotiations.
