Chance to be "Oceans' Best Friend" and Co-CEO for a day

DB Schenker shows commitment to the reduction of plastic waste and the protection of our oceans. In the run-up to "World Oceans Day", which takes place on June 8, DB Schenker calls on more than 80,000 employees in over 130 countries to spend one week consciously dealing with plastic in everyday life. From all the activities and photo submissions, one winner will be selected, who will receive a very special prize as "Oceans' Best Friend": He or she will become Co-CEO for one day and will have the chance to look over the shoulder of Schenker CEO Jochen Thewes.
The campaign, which will take place for the first time at DB Schenker, aims to raise awareness for the fact that more than 80 percent of plastic waste in the oceans is produced and consumed on land.
CEO Jochen Thewes: "Alongside climate change, reducing plastic waste is one of the biggest social challenges we all face. Logistics, as the backbone of world trade, is of central importance in taking responsibility for sustainability and climate protection. With our "World Oceans' Week", we want to set standards for the more conscious use of plastic in our everyday lives."
The week starts with a "print-free day", which deliberately avoids the use of printers and copiers, then calls for an "avoid-plastic day" and ends with the selection of "Oceans' Best Friend ".
As a logistics service provider that transports sea freight without having its own shipping space, DB Schenker is committed to the protection of the oceans. For example, the company has committed to reducing the specific CO2 burden of ocean freight by 66% by 2030 (compared to 2006). The focus of all environmental measures is in cooperation with shipping companies and the industry in general. Since 2012, DB Schenker is a member of the Clean Cargo Working Group, in order to agree on technical developments and environmental measures.
