airBaltic shortlisted for IATA Diversity & Inclusion Team Award

  03.06.2019

International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced Latvian airline airBaltic as one of the four airlines shortlisted for its Diversity & Inclusion Team Award, whose ceremony took place during the annual general meeting in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.
Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “I am truly honoured that airBaltic has been recognized on a global scale for its work in this notable field. As an innovative airline, airBaltic has been driving progress in various fields in Latvia and globally. We have been fully committed to achieve gender equality and promote well-paid professions among women.”
Since 2013, airBaltic has maintained full gender equality in the number of employees within the company. Currently more than 40% of airBaltic’s top management representatives are female. The airline has also maintained a 50% proportion among all managers.
“I congratulate all the nominees and winners of these awards, all of them should be proud of what they have achieved and how they are contributing to the Diversity & Inclusion agenda. Our industry is diverse, and we need an equally diverse and inclusive workforce to meet their needs. But there is still a lot of work to be done to achieve the balance we need, particularly on gender diversity at senior levels. Today’s impressive awardees both demonstrate and inspire progress,” said Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Director General and CEO.
IATA Diversity & Inclusion Team Award is designed to recognize airline that has seen a tangible change in their diversity as a result of the work has been doing in diversity and inclusion. Together with airBaltic on the shortlist for the IATA Diversity & Inclusion Team Award were also Air New Zealand, Iceland Air and Qantas Airways. Air New Zealand received the IATA Diversity & Inclusion Team Award.
IATA Diversity & Inclusion Awards aims to recognize and celebrate the great work that is being done to take the industry into the future. Established in 2019, awards are presented in three categories and are reviewed by an independent judging panel. Overall, IATA received 68 submissions.
airBaltic serves over 70 destinations from Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius, offering the largest variety of destinations and convenient connections via Riga to its network spanning Europe, Scandinavia, the CIS and the Middle East.
