Lufthansa Technik extend their lease

  06.06.2019

Lufthansa Technik and Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH have agreed to extend the lease for the maintenance hangar, the workshop and other offices and service areas until the end of 2022. With this lease extension, Lufthansa Technik now has more scope to plan the future of the maintenance business in Berlin. Now, the approximately 60 employees in the workshop can remain at the Schönefeld site until the end of 2022. The workshop's unclear future has been repeatedly addressed in recent months in the Brandenburg State parliament and was the subject of media coverage. Components for aircraft engines such as pipes, conduits or cooling systems are maintained and repaired in the workshop.
Sören Stark, Chief Executive Technical Operations of Lufthansa Technik: "The extension of the lease is good news. We would like to thank the airport for this opportunity. It gives us valuable time to plan for the future of our maintenance activities in Berlin, while developing professional prospects for our staff in the workshop at the same time".
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: "Lufthansa Technik's workshop and aircraft maintenance will remain. This is good news for employees and our airline clients. The airlines will be able to continue using the services of the experts at Lufthansa Technik until the end of 2022. For Lufthansa Technik, the extension opens up the interesting option of reevaluating the location after the opening of BER and preserving jobs at the airport".
