Jaxport box throughput in FY2019 to date is up 6pc

The Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) handled one million TEU over the first three quarters of fiscal year 2019, representing a year-on-year increase of six per cent.
Asian container volumes continue to climb, up eight per cent to date in the current fiscal year, to total 334,000 containers.
Auto units handled over the reporting period were up seven per cent to reach 535,000 units.
Demand for Jaxport's location and fast access to 70 million US consumers is fuelling expansion in the container and auto sectors, reported Container Management, UK.
SSA Atlantic is preparing to break ground on a US$238.7 million container terminal at the port's Blount Island Marine Terminal and the federal project to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel to 47 feet is ahead of schedule, with completion expected in 2023.
Other highlights include the port signing a long-term agreement with automobile processor AMPORTS to expand the company's leasehold at Jaxport to a total of 170 acres. AMPORTS leases property at the port's Blount Island and Dames Point marine terminals, and intends to develop an extra 45 acres at Dames Point by 2023.
